Tech Tack: PDF Fonts

When you create PDF files for processing, they may look fine on your screen....but not so fine when you see the printed output. How can that happen? Even though PDFs solve many problems, it’s still necessary to make sure you set up the file properly before sending it out for printing. The main problem that can occur is missing fonts.

Here’s a Tip to make sure that your printed output looks as good as it can:

In Distiller, choose to “Embed All Fonts.” You can find this option in older versions of Distiller under ‘Settings’, ‘Job Options,’ then ‘Fonts.” In Distiller v.6, it is under ‘Settings’, ‘Edit Adobe PDF Settings,’ then ‘Fonts.’

If you select to ‘Cancel Job’ when ‘Embedding Fails’ you will also always be able to tell if your fonts are not included.

These steps are particularly helpful if you are using an unusual font in your document.
