America’s WWII memorial in Washington D.C. has finally become a reality, opening to the public in late April and publicly dedicated May 29. Its placement on the Mall between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial symbolizes the War as one of the most important events in our nation’s history.

In November, finalists for the proposed 2012 Olympic Village were announced. The winning design will be announced in May. The final decision on which city will host the 2012 Olympics will not be made until July of 2005. See details of the NYC bid and the competing designs at www.NYC2012.com.

New technologies for breaking down garbage have hit the market. They use intense heat and/or pressure to disintegrate garbage. The $30 million plants are already in use in Europe, Asia, and Australia. (SciTech section of http://abcnews.go.com)

A five member team from ASU presented the winning scheme for the 2nd annual national ULI competition – for their redesign of a Pittsburgh Riverfront site, beating out teams from Stanford, Harvard, and MIT for the honor. http://www.udcompetition.uli.org
