Tech Tack: New and Newer

Take time to see Fujitsu’s new MVA TFT display. It is bright and sharp as never before seen in laptop displays and features a wide viewing angle as well. This technology is bound to be standard before long and marks a huge visual step forward for mobile computing. Sharp has also introduced new screen technology which let’s you view images in 3-D at the touch of a button.

Increased battery life is also coming. Methanol cells will be available this year from Toshiba, with claims that by 2006 a version with 8 hour life will be available. Other options are in the works as well with research on solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and other technologies to make batteries smaller and more powerful.

On the horizon are projectable virtual keyboards for PDAs and laptops which will do away with using cramped and inconvenient current versions...and should also help lighten the load!
